Chapter 51 signals the start of a narrative turning point by opening up with the equivalent of a slap to the face. With no build up, no prior suggestion at all, Annie's father (a mercurial unknown man to this point) returns after abandoning her without a word years ago. (3/15)

The sequence that follows Annie to the bathroom is a masterclass in the strength of comics as a narrative medium. The art style becoming wonky and more 'juvenile' instantly shows how Annie is feeling. Unstable. Childish. She's completely disarmed. (6/15)
