I've decided this interpretation is funnier

My batshit Sonic 4 movie pitch is that with no family to call his own, Shadow goes to the only other human he is sort of friends with: a guy who was divorced and widowed in the span of 5 minutes and is not coping at all

Local grifter gets banished from his home a second time, becomes a better person at the cost of his entire sense of self- worth and belief that he deserves to be alive, and adopts "repent from your selfishness by never letting yourself be happy again" philosophy. More at 8
