i bought a cheap frame from target, the kind that is an inch thick and see through with no backing, to make into a tracing table by putting it over my ipad with the brightness turned up. this was drawn on a5 manga paper with fountain pen, scanned, & touched up in procreate

i said once i learned traditional inks it would be over for everyone!!! manga pens + fountain pens, tones added in procreate

this is quite simply one of the funniest books

quite blown away by this. yamada's elegant, effortless lines, sparse use of shading, & liberal negative space convey a simmering anger & aching loneliness in the narrative. she was first & foremost a poet & it shows in what she prioritizes in visual storytelling as well

practice freehand-ish sketching (very loose pencil that got erased underneath). muji 0.5 pen in a shitty target grid notebook, cleaned up & toned in procreate
