Here are my (hilariously loose) pencil sketches for this guy and a 3D blockout I did to figure out the lighting and composition. Also a WIP so you can actually see his face before the costume was finished :)
and may I present possibly the worst sketch I have ever done? Taylor is an absolute saint for putting up with my mid-travel nonsense. Here's another piece where I experimented with 3D, loosely sculpting the landscape in Zbrush and then lighting it in Modo. Really fun process!
I still kind of love these early ship concepts from the Victorian sci-fi game, Murderous Pursuits.
can't wait to get tattooed again. One of my beautiful friends, by Danielle Rose
I really wanted to try and do something quite tight and filmic, almost like a shot from a movie ("Saving Private Ryan, but colourful" was sort of my internal brief). The badass couple are taking cover behind Basri's sand wall for a moment, preparing to push forwards.
I talk about character concept art with students all the time and made this quick guide for folio building - figured I would share it here too 🙏 Obviously it doesn't cover everything, but these are some good practices.

this is what it's like to tattoo an art director. REFBOARDS AND PAINTOVERS BABYYYY 🐍🌙🔺
Mark Gibbons' Warhammer art had a profound effect on me as a child. You honestly can't beat this stuff 🙏
Hey can we talk about THIS OWL? Amazing work @WilHallett_art ❤️
I did a wee photobashing demo on stream tonight!
The brief for this was: "Show a perfectly ordinary house cat surrounded by the ghostly spiritual avatars of its past lives." My first approach was to do a slightly comedic take where they were all smooshed into a tiny room, forever watching this normal cat. I still love it.
True to my word, I'm going to paint the lovely @RahulKohli13 as a space marine. First up, a super loose doodle 🙏
