(10/17) Another story where the horror comes from an unexpected place. Instead of monsters or cosmic horrors, we're confronted with the idea that we may be replaced by a facsimile of ourselves, in this case a pre-recorded VHS tape.

(11/17) A couple of the stories in this collection feel a little more outside of expected genre conventions. For instance, "The Sword of the Reanimator" feels a lot closer to horror-fantasy than I'm used to from him.

(13/17) And of course, I love any of his stories that feature a big gross-out body melt scene. This one has a couple that are absolutely fantastic. Lots of skeletons!

(14/17) As I was saying, skeletons. This story, which features a group of characters getting hopelessly lost in a never-ending labyrinth lined with staring, mummified monks, is deeply claustrophobic and scary!

(15/17) One of the final stories in this volume, "The Village of Sirens", touches on a similar folklore or horror-fantasy vibe similar to the earlier story "The Sword of the Reanimator", but with more than a touch of Lovecraftian cosmic horror.
