Thumbnails can establish all the information you need: - Perspective of the scene - Character proportions - Who is there - Their expression and pose - Their relationship to the environment and other characters (2/6)
You'll have to practice specifically: - Thumbnailing with accurate proportions (for your style) (gesture drawing is great for this!) - Creating accurate perspective without a grid - Drawing and studying things based on their relationship to eachother (angle, distance, etc) (3/6)
Sometimes, I need more information than the thumbnail has. If I run into this, I just sketch whatever I need on the spot! Here, for instance, I needed an accurate angle of the bench they're on, and I couldn't figure out Steve's torso with just the thumbs. (4/6)
