Metal Sonic is now the closest thing Tails has as a comfort, after tails `lost' Sonic and Metal Sonic lost Eggman. He undergoes upgrades ans such by Tails and grows into not a replacement but a figure that is almost needed. But he knows that it's not him Tails needs
As just mentioned, Shadow takes care of the Master Emerald in Knuckles absence for sometime till he resumes his place. Knuckles returns after some time, but actually invites Shadow to stay as a guardian with him, in which their bond grows
Here I try to develope further as to why Tails has taken the role of Eggman, in which the reason is that Eggman has developed a serum to up those injected with its aggression (yea just think zootopia), Tails is the unlucky test subject-but it backfires as he takes Eggman's life
