At first I named him 'Rodney'. His style is influenced by first gen bboys and martial arts. I liked his seriousness and complete trust in this small ping pong paddle. Easily underestimated.

Since I had a solid idea of his general appearance, most sketches were spent trying out details and iconography.

I made this edit of One Piece a while ago, still gold.

For a while he had only one eye, with other blacked out. But because we mirrored the images in LL1, he'd be blind in the other eye if he turned around. So I dropped it.

So I started to draw boombox robots, experimenting with shapes. He still had a head on top of the chest at this point, but the audio jacks on his fingers were there early on.
