The old Batman comics could be so weird. After a while, every comic gets weird-Archie, Star Wars, Thor, whatever-but Batman seemed to be aiming for a world record. Even Superman never travelled that far into the Weird Zone. It was as if kids were providing the stories.

French cartoonist, Claire Bretécher (b. 1940). Well-known for her depictions of women and gender issues. Growing up in the 1980s, I had a neighbor who was a big fan of Bretécher's work. She was an old school radical feminist, my neighbor, a real battleship, and really funny.
