Probe droid designs by Ralph McQuarrie and Joe Johnston, for THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK. How many ultra-brief background characters can claim to be in such a beautiful painting?

Dick Tracy character, Moon Maid. Introduced in 1963, she became one of the comic's main characters for a while until her death in 1978. Every comic or cartoon or TV show eventually had some kind of visiting space alien at odds with the world they're visiting.

And this one then: Evil-Lyn without her helmet. I don't think I ever witnessed that as a kid. I would have remembered. Heck, I still remember seeing a hatless Smurf.

Spotlight on MASTERS OF THE UNIVERSE character, Evil-Lyn. I had the figure, you know. The action figure I mean. Sophia Loren, eh? Image 2, the toy design, is by Colin Bailey; 1 and 3 are for the 1987 movie, by Ralph McQuarrie and Claudio Mazzoli respectively.

Carl Barks's welcoming Uncle Scrooge. In Holland, where I'm from, Uncle Scrooge is called Uncle Dagobert. All the Barks stories were reprinted in weekly magazine DONALD DUCK. Barks's mad inventions, imaginative stories and lively characters were a big part of my formative years.
