Here you can see how I mapped out my shadows and scale flows. This is a vital step to get the texture to read as wrapping around the form believably if you are gonna paint it by hand. I also drew a wireframe around muscles to make sure its all very dimensional.
I tried hard to mimic the 3D art style you see in modern Pokemon cards with these. It may come as no surprise to you smart people but painting a faux 3D aesthetic took much longer than I expected. Please admire the subtle but complex detail I tried to get in there.
One element about the feathers/quills I do like is that they go from yellow to orange to red. However the eyes do not do the same, which is a missed opportunity for design unity. Also I really like that the ice face starts as a cold sore(cold saur lol)
To clear up why Baxcalibur has the red spikes on its hands. Those are quills due to the concavenator(a dinosaur from Spain) inspiration source of arctibax. They work here but just feel out of place on baxcalibur.3D model by Max Bellomio @/digital_duck
I also mostly like Skeledirge but I think its just got a bit too much going on. Quick idea at that simplification. I get his fire was supposed to be bird nest looking but I think the bird alone is all you need from the egg hat Crocalor. Also some ear horns help him look less bald
Artworks I spend over a hundred hours on, I call them century pieces. You can maybe see why it took so long lol. I even counted out and color coded the stupid little head horns on the pachycephalosauruses to make sure they lined up right. This was a nightmare.
Suicune was my favorite of the three when I was a kid and now they made it a goddamn dinosaur??? It's like they are begging me to draw it. It's so cool!!
