Many people love my work not because it says tech is bad but because it lights up the idea that progress stopped being about expanding ourselves and became about optimizing us into something easy to control. Many are starting to realize that better tech doesn't mean better lives.

Art I made about AI before AI could make art

People are replacing Internet searches with AI questions and I'm afraid it won't end well. Grok gets mentioned in every post as a literal truth arbiter, and yet it got Community Noted twice for stating my art was AI-generated when it wasn't. Good ol' Google would have sufficed.

AI may be fast, fresh, cool, easy to play with… But I like making art the old way. I like spending a lot of time on an artwork, putting every detail in its place. I need to fulfill my vision my way. I'm not interested in shortcuts to get to "the point". The process IS the point.

In my work I intentionally mix elements from our current era with fragments from centuries ahead, to create this anachronistic dissonance. It's how I try to balance two contradictory kinds of nostalgia: mourning for things we are losing and for futures we will never reach.

In my work, the pieces dominated by warm tones mark the world's periphery. These are not pastoral escapes or romanticized rural retreats but places that progress abandoned, left behind by those accelerating systems that gave birth to that famous teal color my work is popular for.

The main challenge I set for myself, the thing that keeps this interesting after 15+ years, is trying to make something that screams "Dangiuz" but feels innovative at the same time. Sometimes I manage, sometimes I don't, but trying is mandatory. The attempt itself is the point.

I didn't invent Cyberpunk, but I did add my own distinctive elements to the lineage, as every generation. But, AI is trained on the visual culture of the present, including my art. Perhaps in 50 years the last survivors making human art like me will be thought of as foundational.

The Basel accomplishments are the result of many years of evolution and sacrifices. People from outside have often misunderstood or neglected digital art. We had their interest, but now we have their attention. Refreshing to see... And I can't wait to announce a fun thing soon.
