If I can give writers any advice about writing gay characters, it's that making them interesting to watch is the best counter to anything "problematic"

It's a character design thing. Same reason gluttons are depicted as overweight. A large nose is a symbol of greed and dishonesty (think Pinocchio)You don't have to like it, but to say it's antisemitic feels like I said, in bad faith.
