It is the 35th anniversary of Katsuhiro Otomo's animated film AKIRA ( released July 16, 1988 ). The film is the single biggest inspiration that got me to work in animation/vfx and getting hired on Freedom (2006-7) remains a very memorable highlight of my career. 🥲😌4

Some character designs (page right) for the Freedom OVA (2006) that never saw the light of day. Now they weren't necessarily rejected because it didn't meet Otomo's own standards but due to exec/creative decisions. No doubt he can easily fill a book with his discarded sketches. 1
