idea i had for this was to show diff iconography thru the years of the worms, a bunch of easter eggs from their albums and music videos and kind of tried to make it a tribute to their legacy thru the years

how we got to the cover was i kinda segmented it as a grid, one row for each album, and each would have been snippets of album art, a song reference, a music video. they kinda felt like stuff was unrecognizable so we went for a more sticker-like approach

each of the stories revolve around the pandemic year we have had to go through and is a reflection of so many distinct experiences told beautifully by some stellar creators following pages from @twtnirenren , Just Luis, Rommel Joson and @andoyman

something i always discuss in my workshops is the idea of space is time in comics to relate it to something we're more familiar with, in cinematic language a page is a 'scene' and each panel is a 'shot'. Good panelling is like good editing. https://t.co/gpMIMqGJ06

To me, panelling has always been a balancing act I've always been obsessed with the more panels you put on a page, the more moments can be shown, but also they take from one another, leaving you less space to draw it's a balance of pacing, composition, and proper storytelling

to me good panelling is invisible but there are so many ways for panelling to enhance your'e storytelling examples the set-up punchlines of a 3 panel strip how a strict 4 panel grid sets up a rhythmn/balance how more panels feels like more time

panelling for me is also reflective of style my favorite comic creators, Jason, strictly adheres to panel grids whether 4,6,8, or 9 panel grids his dedication to this oftentimes allows his style swerves where the significant moment/panel is given the same weight as the mundane

A grid isn't neccesarily boring in my opinion, it's a good tool for people starting out as it allows comic creators to focus on learning on 'picking the moment' per panel allows for that when you choose to break the grid, it's impactful (pages from Stray Bullets and Watchmen)

comics is sequential imagery, and is often storytelling through juxtaposition of images it isn't moving images, but static, you often have to pick the right moments to tell a story take for example a bouncing ball. how many panels does it take to show? how much time passes?

how much space do you give a moment? how do you arrange the moments? adding and subtracting panels/moments often changes how a story is told, and also changes the way your page is laid out comics panneling to me is one constant obsession

one thing I love doing with my panelling is splitting up one scene into multiple panels this allows to divide/dictate the way a reader experiences the comic, the gutters can help make multiple things happen within the same bg, at the same time i like making comics without them

Lost was an experiment in panelling where there were 2 worlds: the left side of a page and a right side of a page I had the characters also go through similar parallel compositions, story beats, and page compositions, twisted reflections, mirrored events, and so on

one brilliant metatextual bit to show this is from Watchmen is how you can read Dr. Manhattan experiencing the past, the future, the present all at once as he has the same perception we have with reading a comic we see it all laid out behind us and before us

another obsession I have with comics is: art style when asked what is more important in comics, art or story, I would argue that the art /is/ part of the storytelling images from @scottmccloud https://t.co/gpMIMqGJ06

tangent, writing for artists is something @neilhimself does well The Sandman: Endless Nights anthology, the stories are just perfectly suited to the artist telling each Endless' story Desire - Milo Minara Despair - Dave Mckean Delirium - Bill Sienkiewicz Destiny - Frank Quitely

was kinda cathartic to try and draw how i used to and noticing how I've grown different with how i choose to depict or see myself so hey this sponsored post kinda got heartfelt for me in a way (some self portraits from 2010 - 2011)
